Redbacks AGM 2017
January 16, 2017
Redbacks AAA v Richmond Knights 01 May 2016
May 3, 2016
Game 1 - Redbacks 6-8 Knights
Essex Redbacks and Richmond Knights probably hold the National record for extra inning games between them before today and they have now added another one to the tally. Adam Ramsey started for the Knights and kept the Redbacks at bay with some clever junk ball pitching. The Knights got on board quickly and aided by some great fielding from Rael Mackay found themselves 4-0 up mid 4th. The Redbacks now were getting the measure of Ramsey and Stuart Harper-Horn (3 for 4) and Scott Brampton brought it back to 4-3 Knights. After a blank 5th Knight put the pressure on with 2 more runs but Redbacks immediately responded with 2 of their own. Redbacks blanked the Knights top of the 7th and needed 2 to win. Knights brought on relief pitcher Michael Daykin to close it out. Adam Commons drew a walk and stole second. 2 wild pitches from Daykin brought the tying run home. But Daykin found the zone and struck the next two out. Another walk placed the winning runner on board but sadly a grounder to shortstop ended the inning. Top of the 8th and 2 out and it was Redbacks turn for wild pitches allowing 2 to score for the Knights. Daykin retired the 3 batters to end the game at Redbacks 6-8 Knights.
Game 2 – Redbacks 2 – 16 Knights
Game 2 started with Warner catching instead of pitching due to an injury to Armando Guzman giving Scott Brampton his first AAA start. Knights took advantage and raced to a 6-1 lead after 3 inning with tight defence and good pitching from John Kristensen. Sadly the 4th inning blew it wide open with hits and Redbacks errors combining to give the Knights 10 more runs and a 16-1 lead. A consolation run was drawn back bottom 4th and James Cane pitched the last Redbacks inning with no more damage to give a mercy game to the Knights.
