The Redbacks Youth Baseball Academy

The Redbacks Baseball & Softball Club Youth Baseball Academy caters for any young person between the ages 4-16 no matter what level of baseball experience, age or gender to play competitive sport in a family friendly environment.

The Redbacks were formed in 2010 and are based at Forest Glade, Barleylands, Billericay, Essex.

The Academy is all inclusive encouraging participation, competition, team sports and most importantly to having fun.

Our Baseball diamonds, uniquely for the UK, are equipped with full backstop facilities and the club has the only purpose built U14 baseball diamond with pitchers mound and backstop in the South East and East Anglia. We are also fortunate to have an ample sports field for off diamond training plus full changing facilities, toilets and a club house.

The Redbacks Youth Baseball Academy supports a minimum of two youth teams each season, the Little Redbacks our under 10 team and the FG Redbacks our 11-14 year old team. Youth members 15 years and over and dependent upon experience have the opportunity to train with our adult teams either at Chelmsford or at Forest Glade, or play youth baseball.

The Redbacks Baseball and Softball Club is a member of the British Baseball Federation (BBF) and the youth teams play BBF games interspersed with occasional tournaments and friendly games on Saturday afternoons from the end of April till the end of July. Post season games including the National Championships are held during September. All home games are played at the Redbacks Youth Academy at Forest Glade FC. Billericay Essex, with away games played within or just outside the M25 area.

The BBF is aligned with Little League International, which is a global non-profit organisation that has standardised how youth baseball is structured in the majority of baseball-playing countries around the world.

Little League has a number of different age groups and in addition to other games the Redbacks enter teams into Little League tournaments held in the south east.

Training

Outdoor training takes place during the season (April to September)

The main training session for all youth players is on a Saturday afternoon - 3pm to 4:30pm

There will also be mid week training on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 7:30pm for all age groups throughout the season April till September subject to coach availability.

All equipment is supplied, but we encourage our players to purchase their own baseball glove and baseball pants after the first 3 sessions. We advise that any boy or girl coming to their first baseball session should wear and bring with them the following:

A Cap
Suitable Trainers/boots – these can be football boots/blades or molded (not metal studs)
Tracksuit bottoms and or Sweatshirt/jacket (dependent on weather)
Drink
Sunscreen if sunny

Youth Academy Indoor Training
